Ai SUGIURA

愛知県生まれ。武蔵野美術大学大学院を修了。自身の制作においては、「日常」から 「非日常」へ横断する物の在り方の変化についての考察や、日常にある「表裏」を持つ物質や空間についての考察を軸にし、様々な二次テーマと合わせて創作活動を行なっている。主に彫刻作品やインスタレーションを用い、近年は写真をメディアとして使用した表現も行っている。主なプロジェクトとして2013年よりプロジェクト「Plants in front of a door」を開始。人が家の外（道沿い）に飾る植木の存在に目を向け、フィールドワーク記録を世界の訪れた国で行い、それらを素材に作品を制作している。個人の創作発表活動の他に、2015年よりアーティストコレクティブ「Sabbatical Company」としての活動も行っている。

 

Ai Sugiura was born in Aichi Prefecture, Japan. She studied at the Graduate School of Musashino Art University. Her artistic practice is driven by her interest centered on material and space, inside/outside, memory, the ordinary/extraordinary transition, as well as sub-themes such as. Sugiura’s works often take forms of sculpture and installation, and in recent years she has been incorporating photographs in her three-dimensional production.
Since 2013, also she has been working on a fieldwork project “Plants in Front of a Door” that researching about the existence of plants; while abroad, she collects and creates artworks out of the photographic images of potted plants laid right outside of the doorways of houses.
Alongside her own artistic practice, she has been part of as an artist collective "Sabbatical Company" since 2015.
