Plants outside the door
街を歩いていると、道路に面した塀に植物が並んでいることに気づいた。私はふとそれらについて考えた。何気なく日常に彩りを与えている植木たちは、なぜ家の外に並べられているのだろうか。家主は家の中に住み、それらの植木を見る事はできない。それは私のように家の前を歩く人へのおもてなしなのだろうか。それとも単に庭がないためなのか。そして、それらの植木たちは、私有地と公共空間の境界線に並べて置かれている。
自分の所有物を他人に見せるという行為に存在する「飾りたい」という欲求と、日常生活において発生する全く関係のない無意識の部分。あの植木はその両方の要素を持っていると感じた。
いずれにせよ、そこには持ち主の美意識が見えているように思う。これは、もしかすると日常にある小さな植木の展覧会なのかもしれない。
そんな植物のある風景は、小さな日常の一部であるが、それが集まったらどのような風景が見えるだろう。身近な些細な風景が、非日常的な風景を生み出す可能性があることを試行する。

Plants outside the door
When I was walking around town, I came across some plants lining up on the fence facing the street. I think it is nice to have some green in daily life, but for this case, the owner of the house rarely sees those plants. This is because the owner lives in the house. Then, why did the owner line up those plants there? Would that be a hospitality for people walking in front of the house like me? Or, did the owner put them there because there was nowhere else to put them?
The desire to decorate outside, which exists in the act of showing one’s property to other people, and a totally unrelated unconscious part that occurs in daily life. I think those plants have both of these elements.
Either way, the owner’s sense of beauty was there. I wonder what was a small exhibition in daily life.
